Inspired by our Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking event…
From the amazing response we received from our Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking by Kate Payne Book Party, Dessert Potluck & Food Swap we threw on April 22nd, we are starting a monthly food swap called FSC Swappers. Ashley G, owner of the beautiful yarn store, Common Thread Saratoga, was in attendance at the Hip Girl’s House Party and graciously offered to host the monthly swap.
I’m gonna get right to the details, because May’s swap is ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! Giddy Up!
Place: Common Thread Saratoga, 55 Beekman Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
These monthly swaps will be run just like other swaps in the country. You can watch this video made by Cooking Up a Story on the Portland Food Swappers to get a feel of a food swap. You bring as many items as you’d like to trade. You can bring 1 item or 50 items. (You can also bring no items if you just want to hang out, network and mingle) They can be all the same or all different items. We will not be getting into groups, but rather, the items will be laid out on a few tables and guests will view the goodies and write their names down if they are interested in trading with you. They will also be required to tell you what they want to swap for your item. Then the last hour of the event will be the “live action swap” where you will look on your sheet(s) to see who wants to swap with you. Then you will find those people, based on their name tags or knowing them personally already, and starting a conversation with them: “Do you wanna swap” “sure” “great””let’s do it”….
Anything Goes w/ Swapping:
Sourdough starters, vinegar mother, infused alcohol, infused vinegar, DIY extracts, canned veg, meat & fruit, fermented items, Kombucha SCOBIES, homemade yogurt, cheese, wine, jam, pickled beets, beer, dried herbs, potted herbs, vegetable plant transplants, cookies, biscotti, salad dressings, stocks, muffins, Backyard EGGS, lip balm, soaps, salves, anything that is food, drink or a homemade lotion/balmy/soapy item is welcome.
