Premium pork producers, Flying Pigs Farm, is starting a CSA and will have a pick-up location in Albany. Its a 10 week program and it looks gooooood! They have only a few spots remaining. The pick-up location and date have been determined: SUNY-Albany Campus on Wednesdays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. Sign up for a share by April 25th and receive a $20 discount.

A farm from the Hudson area, Smyler’s Farm, contacted me via Facebook. Her Certified Organic Farm has CSA shares, veg or meats, left for the summer 2011 season. Farm’s Facebook page. Their CSA Program page…….. and may I say that they have some amazing packages. Take a looksie if you live down in that area.


LAST DAY TODAY: As I previously stated on {Know Your Farmer} an announcement, I am now Kilpatrick Family Farm’s CSA Coordinator. I will be fully disclosing this fact from now on. What I will also be disclosing is all the crazy specials/offers I have come up with to introduce interested folks to the CSA process. Here’s my first crazy scheme… “CSA Shareholder For a Day”.

Today only:  KFF is running a special promotion: “CSA Shareholder for a Day” at the Saratoga Farmers Market, 9am-1pm. “CSA Member for a Day” allows you to experience the weekly CSA member process by purchasing a week’s share, micro ($14) or full ($22), just like an existing shareholder! I will walk you through the process from start to finish and will be available for questions.  I am running this promotion in hopes to educate interested persons on the process while also giving the great discount CSA members enjoy weekly. TOMORROW: Sunday, May 1, 10-2pm: Spring Brunch for Capital District Community Gardens, Hudson Valley Community College. The brunch has an amazing feast of foods donated and prepared by more than 100 local restaurants and friends of the non-profit. There will also be a benefit silent auction.


Thursday, May 5, 5:30-9pm: Champagne On The Park in Washington Park. This is a formal event. From the Press Release: “Come and dance the night away as you enjoy complimentary champagne, fine wine and fabulous hors’ d’oeuvres from Lark Street BIDmerchants. Members of the larger Lark Street Community are honored and congratulated each year at Champagne on the Park. The 2011 honorees include In Our Own Voices, Pride Center of the Capital Region, and Adrew Harvey. Tickets for Champagne On The Park 2011 are $60 for an individual and $100 for a couple. Formal attire and flat shoes are encouraged. Champagne On The Park serves as the Lark Street BID’s annual fundraiser with about 500 attendees expected this year. May 14th: Albany Craft Beer Festival, 4-8pm, The Armory, 195 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY.  A wonderful list of participating breweries.


May 14th: Another great event in Albany… Chef’s Consortium is throwing another celebration of local art, food and music. 6-9pm, $20 a person. From the press release: “Join Hudson Valley’s Chefs Consortium as we welcome the beginning of Spring in Albany at legendary architect Patrick Keely’s magnificent church, St. Joesph’s. Under detailed wood carvings, expansive arches and eyes of wooden angels, the Chefs Consortium’s Noah Sheetz, Rebecca Joyner, Nicci Cagan, John Peterson and Jeff Loshinsky will prepare culinary treats. Fresh, local ingredients from Albany area farms, food producers and Hudson Valley wineries will be on the menu. Its huge spiritually-inspired interior will be filled with the Bluegrass, Blues and Jazz music of Dan Johnson and His Expert Side Men, Matt Durfee and guests. High arched wood carved walls will be covered with the artwork of Albany artists like Jennifer Grainer and Chip Fasciana, founder of Albany Underground Artists.”


Monday, May 16th, 7-8:45pm: Strict Avoidance: Caregivers of Food Allergic Children, will have its monthly meeting at the Gatsby Room, Saratoga Springs Public Library. Through February 2012, the meetings will be held on the THIRD MONDAY of each month. I began the group with a handful of local moms. We are not affliated with a food allergy non-profit nor a medical practice, we are more of a safe place to scream/cry/laugh/vent: share recipes, stories and tips and tricks about caring for a food allergic kiddo in your life. I am in the midst of switching my TOTALLY ignored food allergy blog, Strict Avoidance, to be a link to the group.   2. All Good will be at the Chef’s Consortium Event! Also, hopefully some of you enjoyed our Quiche & Cinnamon Buns at the CDCG brunch. Reading about the markets opening this week makes me anxious for the Delmar FM to begin June 4! Can’t imagine being much busier, we’re working 7 days a week right now, but the enjoyment (and awesome sustainable-food exchanges w/ our farmer friends) we get out of it makes it worth it. Let the Market Season BEGIN!!
