{WNIMKW} Living in the West

Editor’s Note: What’s New in My Kitchen Wednesdays, is a semi-weekly series where we weave a personal story with a review of a beloved or new item in our kitchen, in our glass or on our plate. Take it away Leslie….-Christina

In December, an issue of Sunset Magazine arrived in my mailbox. Their slogan, under the magazine’s title, is “LIVING IN THE WEST”…doesn’t really seem appropriate for an Upstate New Yorker. I assumed it was some sort of free trial issue (mistakenly sent to the wrong coast), but with our month-long trip to California approaching, I figured I’d make use of that month’s information.

Now, here we are five issues later, and this magazine is my favorite EVER. I still have no idea how I became a subscriber; however it happened, fate worked in my favor and I can’t get enough.

While it is intended for those in the West, I have gleaned so much awesome information in five small issues (I linked to my dog-eared pages): incredible recipes, wine recommendations, ideas for healthier eating habits, inspiration for greener living, home decorating ideas, DIY home and garden projects…the list goes on and on.

I consistently get so much inspiration from this magazine (and get to daydream about the west-coast restaurants, “weekend getaways” and “day trips”). I may be one of their only east-coast subscribers, but I don’t plan on letting this magazine go anytime soon! You can check it out yourself on their website, where they share all the wonderful things I mentioned above.

Thank you for reminding me of Sunset magazine! My mom used to subscribe when I was little, and I really should pay more attention to their website. It makes me a little homesick, but will help me count down the days ’til I move back to the West coast!

You’re welcome, Celia! 🙂 Their website is great–there’s so much info, prepare to get sucked into for hours if you’re not careful!!

I haven’t cracked a Sunset mag since I was a kid! I gotta look out for it now….although my magazine pile is pretty scary tall at the moment! eeek no earthquakes please.
Are you coming out here again? Although we didn’t get to do a lot of hooking up last time around, I would love to hang out once again….

Maria–Lainey just talked about you and your sweetie yesterday, asking when we would have another playdate! We will be back in CA, at the very least, next winter (for six weeks that time!). THe plan is fewer visitors, which will mean more time to ourselves for things like playing. 🙂 We’ll keep in touch. In the meantime, enjoy SUnset! 🙂
