Today there is a Kids Expo, sponsored by grocery store chain, Hannaford, at Empire State Plaza. Entertainment, rides, crafts and food vendors…If you’re like me and have run out of things to do with your kiddo during this long winter, you might want to check out this event. Free Admission. Hours: 10-5pm.
Local favorite, Brown’s Brewery is hosting a fundraiser for Susan G Koman for the Cure at their Revolution Hall. Parti Gras begins at 7pm. $10/person. From the press release: “HUNKS of FUNK and ROBANIC live at Brown’s Rev Hall this Saturday, March 5 for our First Annual Parti Gras! We’ll have fancy cajun eats and plenty of Brown’s Hoodoo Voodoo Ale.”
On Sunday, The Saratoga Winery is hosting a Ladies Day from 1pm-5pm. $4 glasses of wine, jewelry making with Dragon Fly Design, Chair Massages from Kaivalya Spa, Complimentary Snacks, and Miche Hand Bags.
Next Saturday, March 12th from 12-3pm at the Troy Farmers Market Winter location, NOFA-NY is hosting a CSA Fair. Come meet local farms who are offering a CSA for summer 2011. There will be crafts for the kiddos!
Saturday, March 26th is cookie bake-off time at the Saratoga Farmers Market. From the press release:
1. Anyone can enter
2. Bring your two dozen cookies by 9:30am to the market table
3. Cookies must include at least 2 market ingredients, identified by product and vendor (bonus points if you use more than 2!)
4. Judges: a baker, a male student, a grandmother (names being w/held so they cannot be bribed)
5. Cookies will be judged on TASTE, Use of Market Ingredients (Originality), Looks
6. From 1:15-11am cookies will be made available for public tasting and popular choice vote (taste only).
7. Judging to take place at 11am with winner announced before noon!
Judges Award: $25.00 Market Gift Certificate
Popular Choice Award: $15.00 Market Gift Cert.
Finally, on Sunday, April 3rd Congregation Gates Heaven in Schenectady is hosting a Jewish Food Festival. Hours 12-4pm.
In “good food jobs” news; Kilpatrick Family Farm is hiring! They are looking for the Creative Director (CSA/Local-Chef Coordinator) of the farm. The job sounds dreamy– take a looksie on their Facebook page. (LINK UPDATED TO THEIR WEBPAGE)
I love the Post Star. Its a newspaper, based in Glens Falls, that covers great farm and food stories among the regular newspaper beat. This week they have an editorial with video on “prison loaf”, they feature Washington County Jail’s recipe.
Steve Barnes of Table Hopping Blog has a very cool news story; locally-linked chef will be on Top Chef Masters! Suvir Saran will be competing for local non-profit Agricultural Stewardship Association. So Cool! Barnes has more information- don’t wanna poach the entire article.
