FAIRS & FESTIVALS FOR OCTOBER 16 & 17th
The biggest fiber fair all year is finally here! NYS Sheep & Wool Festival, October 16th & 17th, Saturday 9AM-5PM Sunday 10AM-5PM. The huge fair will be at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck. Miles & I will be there on Sunday if anyone wants to meet up!
Troy Chowderfest has also arrived with around 30 vendors serving up their tasty take on the New England Classic. I’ve heard that this is a very popular event, so get their early if you want to make sure there’s chowda’ to be had. Troy Chowderfest takes place on River Street, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free and chowder samples cost $1. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Troy Boys and Girls Club.
Farm Sanctuary Walk for Factory Farm Animals, The Crossings, Colonie, 12pm-3pm, Sunday, October 17th. Registration fee is $20 and all the money goes to The Animal Sanctuary’s farm in Watkins Glen. From albany.com website: “Come join fellow animal lovers for a walk to promote and raise awareness to the plight of farm animals that endure abuse and neglect on Factory Farms. This walk will raise much needed funds that will go directly to the Farm Sanctuary, a place that rescues and educates the public about the need to eliminate factory farming and end farm animal abuse. It should be a sunny day, so come out and walk for a good cause and enjoy some snacks and mingle with others!”
24th Annual Polish Harvest Festival at the Polish Community Center, 225 Washington Avenue, Albany from 12PM-8PM.
Schenectady County Farm and Foliage Day, October 16th, various locations throughout the county. From Albany.Com website “Schenectady County Farm & Foliage Day will have events taking place throughout the Capital Region all day long! Including farmers markets, hayrides, guided tours, Craft activities, demonstrations, rock climbing wall live music and more!” Lists of participating farms and businesses are included in the link.
Farmers Market in Menands is holding its annual “Pumpkin Festival” during market hours, Saturday October 16th 9am-1pm. From Albany.Com “Bring your pumpkins to enter in a contest for prizes in the form of restaurant gift certificates. Categories are as follows: Prettiest Pumpkin, Most Peculiar Pumpkin, Most Petrifying Pumpkin, and Biggest Pumpkin. Also for only $1 kids can paint and decorate their own small pumpkin! In addition there will be live music, hay wagon rides, pedal tractors, baked goods, and the freshest produce available in the Capital Region!”
Upper Union District, in Schenectady, is hosting a “Harvest Festival” from 10am-3pm Saturday, October 16th. From Albany.com “A little bit of country in the city including the Stompin Jug Ramblers and other bands; delicious food at a dozen diverse Upper Union St. restaurants, farmers market (from 9am), a Gourmet Marketplace of local agricultural products; free wine tastings, scores of artists including Julie Branch’s new show at Sow’s Ear and pet caricature artist (free of charge) at Head to Tail Pet Wellness Center, antiques, Meet & Greet with author Nancy Duci Denofio at Egan Realty & Appraisals, free balloon sculptures by Mr. Twisty, pony rides. baby farm animals, rock climbing wall, crafts and other children’s activities, promotions, drawings, give-aways, and much more.”
Oktoberfest at the German-American Club of Albany, 32 Cherry Street, Albany. Doors open at 5:00 PM. Dinner served at 6:00 PM. Dinner choices are TBA at $20/person. Salad and dessert included.German Lagers, Pilsners, Bocks, and Hefeweizens will be available. Walk-ins are welcome for music and dancing at $6/person.
