Honestly, ’tis the season for local food-related events! There is so much going on its hard to keep up. There are festivals, fairs, charity dinners, farm tours. You name it, its going on this fall season.
FESTIVALS, FAIRS, HARVEST DINNERS AND CONFERENCES
New to this list: Altamont Orchards’s Altamont Apple & Wine Festival at the Altamont Fair Grounds, Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 10am- 5pm. This festival promises to have an extensive NYS winery section and lots to do with the kiddos. In addition to the usual arts, crafts, fair food and amusement rides.
TODAY, September 18th: Saratoga Farmers Market will host the 3rd Annual “Iron Chef” Cookoff between Max London (Max London’s) and JT Baker (Black Watch Steak House) who returns to defend his 2009 & 2008 wins. Cooking starts at 10:30am, Judging at 11:30am. The Ecee is Steve Barnes, blogger of Table Hopping @ Times Union.
TOMORROW: Sunday, September 19th 1-6pm. This is a don’t miss event! Honest Weight Food Coop’s Local Harvest Festival at the Washington Park Lake House.

September 25 & 26th: Hudson Valley Garlic Festival. Chef demos, children’s area, music and GARLIC!
September 25-26th will bring Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival at the Washington County Fair Grounds.
Lakeside Farms is hosting an Antique Show on September 26th 9am-4pm. Get yourself some hot-off-the-wire-rack apple cider donuts and pumpkins while you shop.
September 28th: Brown’s Brewery is hosting a Summer Harvest dinner. According to their website: “Chef Paul Minbiole and Head Brewer Peter Martin have teamed up to present a bountiful beer paired dinner that celebrates the fruits of this summer’s labor. Most of the ingredients on the menu will be sourced from Troy’s Waterfront Farmer’s Market.” A full menu is listed on the Brewery’s home page. $65 per person. (Thanks Sarah for the link)
September 24- October 3 Self-Guided Garden of Eating Tour in Columbia County.Williams College’s Museum of Art will be hosting an all-day (FREE) conference on The Place of Taste: A Symposium of Taste: A Symposium on Food, Culture and Community on October 2nd.
From the website: “This delectable daylong event features chefs, writers, scholars, and artists. Organized by the Williams College Museum of Art and Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture in celebration of the journal’s 10th anniversary.”
October 2nd: Vegetarian Expo , 10am-5pm, Empire State Plaza. Free Admission. From the website: “The NY Vegetarian Expo Brings together the global health benefits of green sustainable living, environmental awareness, and compassion for animals and all beings.”
October 16th: Troy Chowderfest, around 30 vendors, samples for $1.
Don’t forget it’s U-Pick apple season– get out and join the fun!
Feast of the Fields, September 23rd 5-8pm at Saratoga National Golf Course, to benefit Saratoga P.L.A.N. This organization helps to conserve farmland, natural areas, trail corridors and historic places in Saratoga County. Many of the top chefs in the Capital Region will be on hand to cook locally-sources treats! I believe this evening of awesome dining is only $50/person. (Thanks Leslie for the link)
