Homemade Hummus

on

Tortialla chips and hummus is a favorite family snack in our house, and we go through quite alot. I decided it would be easier and cheaper to try my hand at making my own hummus. Turns out it is so incredibly easy to make hummus, I can’t believe all the money we’ve spent on hummus in the grocery store! After playing around with different recipes for a while now, I think I’ve finally found the right one. Thanks to allrecipes.com for this one (slightly modified by me!). It tastes great with chips, fresh veggies, smeared on a sandwich…or even just a finger-full right from the bowl.

Easy HomemadeHummus:

1 can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained

2 med/lg cloves garlic

4 tbsp lemon juice

2 tbsp tahini

1/2 tsp salt

black pepper to taste

1 tbsp olive oil

Place all ingredients into blender or food processor. Puree until smooth.

Sounds delicious! I wonder what Fava beans would taste like, instead of garbanzo. Anyone ever try Fava beans?

Huh. interesting idea Chuckers… is this because you hate garbonzo beans but eat hummus?

  2. Leslie says:

Hmm…I think it would be good, too, just maybe more smooth. Y’know–fava beans are softer. Right? Try it! 🙂

This might be embarrassing, Ive never used fava beans in my cooking- like ever. Need to expand my bean horizon 🙂 Thanks Les for the great recipe, I’m going to try it as I’ve never been able to master a good hummus recipe.

No, Christina dear. It’s because I saw it on the Cooking Channel. I love garbanzo beans, btw.
