CSA Week Four in Pictures

Wow- what a summer harvest we received this week. Cukes, beets, cilantro, sage, red leaf lettuce, broccoli, radishes, and sugar snap peas.

Peas immediately went to two dishes:

a) My poached egg soba stir fry (from a few posts ago)

b) summer veggie risotto (adapted from this recipe on Culinate http://www.culinate.com/books/collections/all_books/The+Garden-Fresh+Vegetable+Cookbook/Risotto+Primavera – My adaptation recipe to follow in a few days!)

Broccoli and 2 radishes also went into the soba dish.

Cilantro and the rest of the radishes went into an impromptu sandwich spread (“recipe” soonish)

Cukes are going to be pickled into a bread & butter sandwich pickle.

…and that leaves me with…

beets.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE beets. I love them so much that I plan to spend the weekend researching the best way to use them.

What did you get either in your CSA Share or this week’s trip to your local farmers market?

We had a very similar share and it was loaded with crazy good stuff! We got two “heads” of leaf lettuce, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, sugar snap peas, sage, cilantro and radishes. I think that’s all. It’s so much that it’s hard to keep track of! We haven’t used much yet, so that is my plan for today. I’m so excited to cook! 🙂

Very beautiful pictures! So since I don’t do a CSA, aIt the FM instead this is what I bought, beets, sugar snap peas, broccoli, zucchini and summer squash. I have herbs at home, and my MIL gave us red leaf lettuce, beet greens, and mesclun. I usually blanch the peas and broc and put them in salads- or in chris dish that she mentioned above ( I have mastered the poached egg, so thanks for that Chris) I grilled the Zucchini and summer squash (sliced length wise drizzled with EVOO and Salt and pepper). We have tons of salad. I wanted to mention my favorite summer dish Panzanella http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/greek-panzanella-recipe/index.html YUM! I use my homemade bread- Double YUM!

Beautiful photos, again, Chris. The radishes make me think of sperm. 🙂
If you haven’t done anything wiht your beets yet, my favorite is to just roast them. It makes them even sweeter and more delicious…I usually just sprinkle w/ olive oil and kosher salt, but sometimes I add a little curry and it’s really good, too!
