One of my many resolutions in this New Year is to RELAX a little bit. I am sure that many of you share similar resolutions. What better to help us relax, than crafting a pretty little placemat for our coffee/tea mug to rest on. In the crafty world this is called a “mug rug”.
CRAFT PROJECT: MUG RUG
This sewing project is super simple to whip up and doesn’t require any special skill set, aside from being able to operate a sewing machine.

First, you should grab some of your favorite fabrics, batting, and coordinating threads and cut them into 8x8inch squares.
Next, you will sew all of those pieces together by sewing all 4 sides using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Then, you will turn your work right side out, press the mug rug flat, and topstitch using a 1/4 seam allowance around all 4 sides of the mug rug, backstitching at the beginning and end of your stitching.
TA DA! There you have it. Your very own mug rug!
