{giveaway} Back to School w/ Whole Food Kitchen

Now that the summer is over its time to get our adult education on! I’m excited for fall 2012 as its the first ‘back to school’ time that we are holding FSC Academy classes since we began in June. While those are in person, and only in the Capital Region of NYS, I’ve often thought of online classes as an amazing learning avenue. Time to share a personal detail about yours truly: I graduated from SUNY Empire State College 12 years after I began by B.A. in 2006 from my  sunny cat-filled Venice Beach, CA apartment. SUNY Empire State College is *mostly* an online school, which was perfect for me as most of my credits from the SUNY system, I was working a fulltime job and  I was living a half a block from the beach in LaLa Land.  I love online learning (hence why we at FSC strive to be educational at our core) and think its an accessible avenue of education to explore in the modern age.

Where does ll this online learning talk come in? Well the wonderful Heather Bruggemen of Beauty That Moves, asked me to be a contributor for her autumn session of her 8-week intensive ‘Whole Food Kitchen’ online class. She requested that I write an essay on Food Swaps as a Community Builder’. I was honored & humbled. Of course! Of course! Yes Yes Yes! Food & Community forever with Food Swaps! (I could chant this all day & night…)

Not only am I fan of her beautiful and beautifully written blog but also thankful that she extends herself to educating others, outside her family circle. She is a community builder and educator in one of the most important issues of our time; learning to or rekindling the love to eat whole foods & from scratch cooking. We live it, as much as we can, here on FSC. It’s the core of what we’re about- cook/bake/explore more in your kitchen, your garden, your communities.

Therefore, due to my participation as a contributor, members of FSC get to take the class (we are so excited) and we get to give a FREE REGISTRATION to TWO of our readers (Class is 8 weeks and begins October 1st: each registration and is $99/per person). Join the FSC Crew, Heather, our friend, Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars (she’s fellow contributor) and hundreds (thousands?) of others in this back to school journey!

{Description & Details on the Class}

    Wow- Thanks for sharing this! We are in the process of signing up to work with a ‘holistic nutritionist’ as a family and this would be the perfect accompaniment! I find that I can sometimes focus and eat healthy on my own, but seeing as how I live with my husband & 4 year old daughter (both of whom can be quite finicky), it would be helpful to get some inspiration on cooking healthful meals as a family on a consistent basis!!

    I’m teaching my daughter how to cook! I’m attempting to teach her how to make as much as possible from scratch – that there is no need to ever eat from a box! I think this class would help me teach her. I’m very interested in the CSA topic and my daughter is interested in the breakfast, lunch box and dinner table one. Thanks for this wonderful website!

    While I consider myself a great cook, I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, and end up scrambling last minute to make quick mediocre meals. I live in an area where fresh local whole foods are abundant. We’ve ventured into raising our own meat birds, and are patiently awaiting egg production from our hens. Truly whole living goes well beyond the humans in our household. Would love to take your class.

    Recently diagnosed health issues are requiring me to totally rethink the way that I eat. I already have been pretty healthy but I now have to pretty much cut out ANYTHING that is not 100% whole, identifiable, simple food. This, combined with my sincere love of teaching my 4 year old son the ins and outs of cooking, makes this class totally perfect for me. I love FSC and what it has taught me so far, this class would only help me go bigger and bolder!!

    This class interests me because I try to stick to a whole foods diet, and know that there is so much more to learn and so much that I could use help with. I’m also just interested in food and nutrition as a subject of study. I’m very interested in the meal planning portion, learning more about plant foods and the holistic lifestyle portion. And I’m not a newbie, nor a seasoned kitchen veteran, I’m just ever expanding my knowledge and skill! :)
