{drink week} Cucumber-Infused Sake

Editor’s Note: Swapper and FSC Academy teacher, Leah, has given us Swap Fever w/ her swap loot recipes of Spiced Nuts, Magic Shell and now for our {drink week}, she gives us Cucumber-Infused Sake. I can tell you from personal experience that the June swap was alive with cucumber sake. Everyone wanted it. So much so, that none of my swap items made the cut when it was time to swap. Doh! -Christina

cucumber-infused sake, infused, strained & ready to drink!

It’s summer, it’s hot, and I have more cucumbers than I know what to do with! Some days you just don’t feel like turning a cucumber into a pickle, and sometimes you really need a light refreshing drink.

I would like to thank Sherri Brooks Vinton author of Put ‘em Up for this simple yet super tasty recipe. I will be honest I didn’t veer or add anything much to her recipe because sometimes all you need is a bottle of wine and a cucumber…

Cucumber Sake taste great alone, over ice with a slice of cucumber. That said, I did create two drinks, Cucumber Sake-Tini or Cucumber Sake Cooler, if you want to get fancy and maybe a little frisky try one of these cocktails!

  • 1 bottle Sake
  • 2 medium-sized cucumbers peeled and seeded


  • Prepare your cucumbers by peeling and seeding them (IMPORTANT: the seeds/skin make the infusion bitter, so take the time to do these steps).
  • Grate the cucumbers or finely mince if you like to use your knife skills.
  • Put cucumber, Sake and any juices in a container and cover.
  • Refrigerate overnight if possible. If you haven’t planned ahead, now worries, it will taste good after a few hours.
  • Remove infusion from refrigerator and strain out cucumber pieces.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 1 week.


2oz Vodka or Gin
2oz Cucumber Sake
Splash Vermouth
Cucumber slice garnish

Poor over ice shake and strain into glass.


4oz Cucumber Sake
1oz St. Germain
Cucumber slice garnish

Top with club soda and serve over ice.
