Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

{ credit: }

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, especially about family & food, I asked the FSC ladies for their thoughts. -Christina

Deanna: “I am thankful for the realization of society that good food is a necessity, not a privilege, and should be accessible for all.Oh, and for chocolate.” :-)

Heather: “This year I am thankful for my one little acre to cultivate, my community of friends in the From Scratch Club, and my children and husband who I work along side of to bring it all together.”

Britin: “I am thankful to be in a position to have enough clean, REAL food from our sustainable farming friends at the Saturday Delmar Farmers Market to serve our little family this Thanksgiving!  Turkey, yams, mushrooms, potatoes, and greens…can’t wait!

Christine: “I’m thankful to be a part of a community of women who are so passionate about the food they feed themselves and their families.

Erika: “This year I’m thankful for so many things I feel like it would be too hard to name them all. Without a doubt, I am only lucky lady. Mostly I feel thankful that I have amassed a huge group of local friends who share the same love of cooking and baking as me. These people are also committed to local agriculture in various ways and it makes me feel very happy and hopeful.

I’m also thankful for the opportunity to work for Kilpatrick Family Farm. I consider all of my coworkers and my boss to be good friends, and that’s something most people can’t say about their jobs. This work has also given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of farming and to get to know our wonderful customers better. I’ve also become friends with other area farmers through this work and I’m very pleased to know them.

I’m also thankful for this blog because not only do I learn from it and feel inspired by the other authors, I love hearing back from readers who have enjoyed the things I’ve shared. It makes this crazy, frantic, very big world some much smaller and kinder.”

Jillian: “What I’m thankful for has been reinforced after witnessing the destruction of Hurricane Irene this past summer. I’m thankful that Mother Nature always gives us tomorrow to try again.

Me: “I am thankful for almost another year with no anaphylaxic reactions for Miles and his constant curiosity for new foods and new tractors. I am thankful to all the hardworking local farmers who toil day in and day out to bring my family and my community fresh food year-round. Lastly, I am thankful for the wonderful contributors, readers and swappers who have cultivated the inspirational, educational and fun FSC Community. Thank you.”

Alexis: “Having had a baby a week ago, I find myself thankful for many of the more traditional and personal things, like my family, good friends and health. Holding a newborn does, however, help to put things in perspective though and I am grateful for simple pleasures like the fresh local foods that have become a part of my daily life.

Liz: “I’m thankful for one day filled with family and food and no other obligations, and of course for the rest of the days of the year that are a whirlwind of life – busy but always good in some way.”

Wishing you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter & good food!

This is a time of year that we reflect how thankful we are for all the people in our lives and the precious moments that we celebrate. I think everyday should be Thanksgiving as it seems to make us smile, don’t you agree?
I am grateful for my family, my sweet little dog who provides such hilarious entertainment, and for being able to share with others my thoughts just as this blog does with such care and honesty. Keep up the great work. I enjoy reading it!
