Herbs and a bathtub, a perfect combo.
The past several weeks the girls have been begging me to buy basil every time we are in the produce section of the grocery store. They are missing the summer days of having fresh herbs right outside their door step. This summer they loved heading out to the garden and picking tons of basil to make one of their favorite, pesto. So with the cold months of winter now upon us (-20 or something yesterday) I thought well maybe it is time to get those seedlings growing and to start to think spring. We are fortunate that we have a lot of space in our house that include big sunny windows.
During the Soup Swap on Sunday night I asked the FSC ladies if I was crazy to try and grow some herbs this time of year. We are agreed that it was worth a shot. I certainly do not have a green thumb…last year was our first vegetable garden ever. Chris forwarded me this link today that will help me set up this indoor herb garden. (I’m also looking forward to Dianna’s upcoming post about how to plann your garden NOW…)
So…what does a bathtub have to do with growing herbs?
Well, I like to keep things pretty too. This antique Hungarian Baby Bathtub is our official “ice bucket” during the summer months. I haven’t really found a great use for it all year long until the idea of using it as a planter for a little indoor herb garden.
So here it goes…our new herb planter which I hope will add a little vintage charm to our house while providing my children all the basil they could ever want.

I LOVE this idea and the tub! What a great way to get the kids involved during the winter
i would like to know where can I buy Hungary baby bath tub
Hi Ann, I believe Amanda bought it at a antiques store. I’m not sure. The link to Apartment Therapy’s review of Garnett Hills version is pretty old and I know that Garnett Hill does not sell them anymore. I’m not sure where to send you other than contacting antique stores in your area, looking on your city or region’s craigslist or on Ebay (but the shipping would be substancial). Sorry we couldn’t be of further assistance.
