{100th} Post Milestone…Part Two: Food Matters Giveaway

As stated in my previous post, Simon & Schuster has graciously sent us one copy of Mark Bittman’s Food Matters Cookbook to give to a lucky winner to celebrate our self-imposed milestone.

What is there to say about Mark Bittman? I mentioned in my recent “What’s New in My Kitchen Wednesday” post that I received my first Mark Bittman book, How to Cook Everything, as a wedding gift from friends. It was the most perfect wedding gift. I have joyously created many, many recipes from it for years. I never knew how to make biscotti, yup, I headed to HTCE. Roast a turkey? HTCE again. Its my staple. My rock. My Joy of Cooking. Bittman has a way to simplifying cooking techniques and instructions to make home cooking and baking accessible, pretty quick, consistent, tasty and successful. Successful is important- how many time have you made a recipe (or more) from a cookbook and they stink, hard to follow directions, or fall flat for one reason or another. Fail.

Food Matters Cookbook was just released on September 23rd. I’ve been waiting for this cookbook companion to his last book, Food Matters. Due to a health scare a few years ago, Bittman made some life choices to shift his eating priorities while not take anything out completely. No sacrificing, just less of the not-so-healthy-stuff. In addition, he focused on looking at how the way we eat is impacting the earth’s health. He surmised that a shift to focusing on eating more fruits, veggies and whole grains and less meat would help his health and the planet. From the inner front flap of the book:

“Meat and other animal products are often included-but no longer as the centerpiece. In fact the majority of the recipes include fish, poultry, meat, eggs or dairy, using them for their flavor, texture and satisfying nature without depending on them for bulk”

The last thing I will say about Bittman is he is an avid runner and you can read his running blog on Runner’s World. There is discusses his ups and downs of training for the Mohawk-Hudson Marathon on 10/10/10. That’s right folks,  Bittman is coming to our area to run a marathon. The same marathon that Sarah & Amanda will be running this coming Sunday. (GO GO GO GO!)

Back to the giveaway, I just received the book, 2-day air, from Simon & Schuster, so I have not made anything out of the book because well, its for the winner. I want it to be a virgin book, but I did peek at some of the recipes, both with meat and totally vegetarian and they look amazing. Good luck!
